All of the above
Q: I have a yellow lab he is 5 years old.i have read every ? and answer on ask the vet. please help he has been suffering for 3 yrs and has been on hydroxyzine, prednisolone inj and the prednisone pills ( which seem to cause him to leek in the house) something he never does. we have tried over the counter bendryl and nothing works. my vet which is wonderful never suggested allergy testing. and recently he was put on diphenhydramine which he takes a total of 600mg a day. he is worst now then he was ever. he also take the medicine year round. he has been on the same food since birthwhich is purina dog chow. he has scabs on this belly and sores on his feet he also has sores that look like ulcers which i apply synotic-banamine for the hot spots he lick and scrathes constanly. it seems like he has had some of every problem that has been in your ? and answer and has taken most of the medicine also. it is very expensive but the money doesn't matter he needs something that works. he is the best dog in the world and i can't seem to help him. please help me find some answers for him. thanks for listening.
A: A case i would see a vet dermatologist for best chance in terms of proper diagnosis and long term treatment plan. might need skin biopsy for diagnosis of what you are describing. might want to start with true low allergy diet like prescription diet purina ha from your vet and ask about drug known as atopica which might help. expensive but can use 1/3 recommended labelled dose ifyour vet also prescribes oral ketaconazole at same time

Tape worms or similar
Q: My cat has what i assume is a tapeworm problem. they are extremely tiny, rice looking worms that crawl from her anal area and get on everything. i have tried store bought wormer but it only helps temporarily. she is an indoor cat and never goes outside. she does not have fleas so i am wondering if you can tell me what other things can cause these and keep them coming back. could litter be a problem? i want a medicine that will rid them for good, but i also want to know how to prevent them in her environment. thanks kevin
A: Meds you have used have simply notbeen effective. they did come from prior flea infestation but meds you have used have not worked as many over countermeds dont. i would get prescription for feline droncit which i find works bestor you could try 1800petmeds tapeworm meds
Shop for: 1800petmeds, droncit

Rimadyl/ibuprofen
Q: You have stated that rimadyl (carprofen) is a close cousin of ibuprofen. can a 100 pound dog with arthritic hips be given ibuprofen for discomfort? any side effects such as stomach bleeds as with aspirin?
A: First of all you should never give an animal human medicine unless your veterinarian suggests it. as for stomach bleeds, it can occur with any antio-inflammatory.
Shop for: aspirin, rimadyl

Demonic mange
Q: My dog has demonic mange..at least that is what the vet said..anyways, i wanted a second opinion.. he said it will never go away..is that true??..also we have him on prednisone, and clemastine..will he have to stay on this pills the rest of his life??..ive read and read about it..and what i came up with that it is caught off of the mother..and humans can't get it..or other animals..is this right??...but the prednisone can be dangerous..for being a steroid...thanks david
A: Prednisone is a big nono with dogs with demodectic mange as it suppresses their immune system. the problem can be cured in many caseswith a medicine like daily ivermectin(if not a colllie or collie crossor sheltiewhich you cant usethisdrug) or at least controlled in other cases. rare cases are resistant to treatment. not congageous.|get off the pred

Cat sneezing
Q: My cat has been sneezing for quite awhile. my vet first diagnosed it as a "kitty cold" and prescribed amoxicillin, which did good until this was stopped. now the vet is saying he has asthma and prescribed 4mg. medrol. he never ran any tests! he is doing no better, in fact maybe worse. this cats sister has had asthma for over 5 years (under another vets care) and has never shown these signs or given this medicine. is it time to get another vet or does this vet know what he is doing?
A: I dont like the workup you describe. should have cbc/differential blood count sent out to lab as well as chest x rays if cat is coughing. also have stool check to make sure no parasites. if cat does have asthma, i find oral pills don't help cats as much as the injections but needs proper workup first.

Yeast infection
Q: I have a 50lb beagle/pit bull mix who has a chronic yeast infection in both ears. i have a lot of trouble holding him down long enough to administer the medicine in his ears. is there a pill form or solid form of medicine that can be taken by mouth to give my dog to clear the infection? is there some type of sedative that i can give my dog to calm him down enough that i may give him the medicine? or what do you recommend as far as restraints to hold him down while i give him the medicine? please answer as soon as possible! thank you!
A: See your vet for low dose sedative. also if truly yeast infection sometimes oral meds like prescription ketaconazole or itraconazole can help.
