Kennel cough?
Q: My 11 month old boston terrier has been to the vet two weeks ago and treated for kennel cough (though they said it could be virus) she was put on antibiotics and cough medicine...syptoms went away in 3 days although now it seems that the symptoms have returned is this possible. i did screw up and forgot the antibiotic on the 6 and 7 the day but gave them to her when i returned home..did i cause it to come back? does she need to go back to the vet or can i wait out this bout of cough?
A: It is possible that by not giving the full course of antibiotic that the condition did come back. the best recourse is to have the veterinarian re-examine the pet.
Tape worms or similar
Q: My cat has what i assume is a tapeworm problem. they are extremely tiny, rice looking worms that crawl from her anal area and get on everything. i have tried store bought wormer but it only helps temporarily. she is an indoor cat and never goes outside. she does not have fleas so i am wondering if you can tell me what other things can cause these and keep them coming back. could litter be a problem? i want a medicine that will rid them for good, but i also want to know how to prevent them in her environment. thanks kevin
A: Meds you have used have simply notbeen effective. they did come from prior flea infestation but meds you have used have not worked as many over countermeds dont. i would get prescription for feline droncit which i find works bestor you could try 1800petmeds tapeworm meds

Generic versus name brand medicines
Q: I noticed for the first time that there is a generic item listed below the heartgard plus item. what is the difference, if any, between the two? thank you!
A: Chemically, these products are the same. the difference is in the shape of the tablet.
Shop for: heartgard, heartgard plus
Clarify nemex
Q: I read a post where you suggested using nemex for cats and kittens. then later another post that it has not been fda approved for cats but for dogs only. can you clarify this for me as i was looking to purchase for my felines. thank you
A: Many meds and drugs have fda listings only for dogs. another excellent example is otomax the popular antibiotic and antinflammatory for ear infections. however commonly used safely in cats as well. also many drugs we use in vet medicine have human studies and labels only such as digoxin for heart problems
